Sixteen-year-old Gabby Douglas recently won two gold medals in London – a team gold for the USA and an individual All-Around gold.  You would think the girl deserves nothing but praise.

Olympic gold medalist Gabby douglas hair styleUnfortunately, though, she’s received piles of criticism from social media outlets worldwide for her hair.  Now don’t get me wrong – I’m a staunch believer that a girl should take care of her hair.  But I’m also a staunch believer that a girl should be able to rock whatever hairstyle she chooses.

Gabby Douglas spends her days flipping upside down and flying through the air – her lifestyle demands a low-maintenance hairstyle.  She has come back at critics and defended her ponytail, and I think there is a little something that we all can learn from her confident response: the same hairstyle is not right for everyone, and we all need to find what is right for us.

So in honor of Gabby’s success, and the fact that she has earned the right to flaunt any style of hair that she desires, I think we should all take a moment to think about our lifestyles and our hairstyles.  Do you love to go out dancing and have a great time, or to feel beautiful in a long gown? Try some real hair extensions for weave or some tape hair extensions and embrace the glamour.  Or maybe you like to shake things up a bit every now and then? Clip-in bangs could add just enough edge to any style.  Or do you just really want to express your wild side? Have some extensions custom made to your liking – dip-dyed, bright colored, anything – let your imagination run wild.

We women deserve to feel great about our hair.  We’ve earned it.
