Elysha rose of traleeNewly crowned rose of tralee overcame Hodgkin’s Lymphoma – Newly crowned rose of tralee Elysha is a beautiful and brave 22-year-old who overcame Hodgkin’s Lymphoma while doing her Leaving Certificate and Spoke about her battle with cancer at just 19 years of age, she told host Dáithí Ó Sé that being diagnosed just two weeks before sitting her repeat leaving cert exams, “felt like being hit by a double decker bus”.

She said: “It was a huge shock. The first thought with cancer was ‘I’m going to die’.”

The Royal College of Surgeons Ireland student began chemotherapy and radiation therapy straight away before finally getting the all-clear in 2013.

She said: “I was given the news that I was in complete remission in February of 2013. Two and a half years later, I’m happy and healthy and in a course that I love.”

She achieved an incredible 575 points and got a place in medical school.

She hopes to become a paediatrician and is involved in the RCSI Paediactric society.

Elysha has volunteered for the Irish Cancer Society and plans to take part in a volunteer mission with a local parish in Lourdes.
