Microblading for People with Hair Loss
Microblading for People with Hair Loss
Many people who experience Hair Loss due to alopecia or chemotherapy treatment can loose their eyebrow hair. They have found that Microblading and Semi-Permanent Make Up helps their self esteem and boosts confidence. Applying makeup every day is a great coping mechanism when dealing with Hair Loss, and having eyebrows permanently on your face makes such a difference to how they look and feel.
It’s perfectly natural to be hesitant when choosing a Microblading artist as there are many stories of bad experiences online…
Recently our colleague Kate-Leigh who has has experience with microblading, hosted an Instagram Live with Olive from Browtique Ireland. You can watch the full discussion with Olive here. Here are some highlights from our conversation, and tips for you when researching a Microblading artist.
1. Trust your Artist to create a brow shape for you
Eyebrow trends change constantly in the Make Up world. Microblading artists will often choose a natural shape, size and stroke to suit your face. Sometimes they will use a special ruler to do this, or even an app on their phone. Remember, you can always draw over this with makeup to create a more dramatic look for example a night time look.
2. It's important that your Artist has a sanitised studio
Microblading is a method that uses tools such as scalpels and pigments, so it is very important that Artists use sterilized materials in a clean and sanitized studio. It is possible for infections to occur if sanitation protocols are not followed exactly.
3. Request to see the Artist’s previous work before booking them
This is a simple and easy request that you may be able to access yourself via their social media accounts. Seeing before and after pictures of previous clients will give you a good idea of what your end result might look like. Sometimes these pictures may have a watermark on the photo with the Artists business name.
4. Most likely, you will return to your Artist for a top up on an annual basis
Microblading is Semi-permanent, not permanent. The strokes fade over time as your immune system breaks down the pigment. Microblading is not the same as body tattooing and is applied with a different method and different pigments. The rate of time between top ups will differ from person to person, but are usually every year or so.
5. Some people may not be eligible for Microblading
Patients going through chemo should consult their oncologist while enquiring about Microblading, and sometimes a letter of approval is needed. Pregnant women are not advised to undergo Microblading. Some people with severe facial burns should also contact their medical practitioners before enquiring about microblading.
